CANADA'S AIRLINES CARRY MORE PASSENGERS IN NOVEMBER

TORONTO (Dow Jones)--Canada's two largest airlines both carried more passengers in November compared with the same month last year, with West Jet Airlines Ltd. (WJA.T) seeing the biggest gains.
Calgary-based West Jet said Monday its planes flew 77.7% full in November, a record for the month. The load factor was up 1.8 percentage points from November 2009.
West Jet’s traffic, measured as revenue passenger miles, jumped 17.9%, while capacity, or available seat miles, grew by 15.3%.
"We're encouraged by the strength of bookings from the business market and the demand for West Jet Vacations packages," West Jet Chief Executive Gregg Saretsky, said in a statement.
Montreal-based Air Canada (AC.B.T) flew 74.8% full, up 0.1 of a point from the same month a year earlier. Air Canada includes figures from Jazz, its regional partner.
Air Canada's traffic rose 7.5% to 3.4 billion, while capacity rose 7.3% to 4.6 billion. The biggest increase came from the Pacific, where traffic rose 19%.
Porter Airlines Ltd., a privately held Toronto-based airline that makes short-haul flights from its base at Toronto's island airport, said its load factor in November was 54%, up from 49.4% a year earlier.
The airline's traffic was up 38.3% from the year-earlier period, while capacity increased 26.5%. Porter said it expects to post record numbers in 2010
